investigating a shooting on des moines' north side... and the suspect is still on the run this morning. it happened at a home in the 31 street. officers were called to the home around 9 p-m... gunshot wound inside. he was taken to the hospital... and is expected to be okay. police say the suspect had fled by the time they arrived... but they believe the public is

not in any danger. nobody had any information on a suspect... and that's basically where we stand right now. polk county deputies also responded to the scene. police are trying to figure out who fired shots into a des moines home. this happened in the 12 hundred block of filmore street... around 1-45 a-m. police say a vehicle drove by and fired shots into the back of the home. officers canvassed the area... and found several shell casings in the alley. no word on a vehicle description or any arrests in the case. november is a dangerous time to be on iowa roads... we've got deer and snow to deal with... but what most commonly causes accidents is your cell phone. channel 13's josh nguyen is live from the iowa state patrol headquarters... to show us how they're educating people about the dangers

an audit reveals a former state worker was overpaid and under qualified... it concerns a former lawyer for administrative job last year... after a scandal involving hush money given to employees with grievances. the report shows lamb pocketed about 22 thousand dollars more than he should have... it also shows he didn't meet the experience requirements for the position in the first place. nearly five million dollars to "kraft heinz." it'll go towards a new food manufacturing plant in davenport. "kraft heinz" is in the process of closing its current plant in the same city. about 14 hundred people work there... and the new plant will

only employ about a third of them. the layoffs will likely begin next year. the company is also in line for another 10 million dollars from the city of davenport. home insurance costs could be going up for hundreds of people in the metro... it's because the "federal emergency management agency" is redrawing flood maps. under the preliminary plan... an additional two hundred clive homes are now forced to be covered by flood insurance... even though they are in a low risk area. and that's just one example. clive leaders are fielding the brunt of frustrations... because no one from fema showed up to a community meeting to discuss the changes... the city is not involved in the process, it's fema and federal government and congress that mandates it. once the maps are finalized... homeowners in the flood plan could see their insurance costs rise by two thousand dollars per year.

the polk county courthouse is keeping its doors open tomorrow... that's because it's national "adoption day." dozens of families will finalize their adoptions as part of the annual event. it was originally created to address a backlog in adoptions in the country... but it has since turned into a celebration. this is the 16 th year the courthouse has participated. your favorite comic book characters are coming toes moines... the "midwest comiccon" gets underway tomorrow at the iowa events center. the iowa comic club helped put on the event... and expand it to a two day occasion. it will feature 40 vendor booths... costume contests... and live music each day. it will also feature something special for star wars fans... which organizers call "roxy." roxy is a life size replica of a rancore from the return of the jedi. luke skywalker falls into that pit

there will now be another way to deliver meals to central iowans in need... program is putting its new delivery van to use this morning. the refrigerated van was paid for by a "walmart." it will make its first meal celebrate its commissioning. the non profit makes its meals from unsellable... but still edible... products that would otherwise be thrown away. a new transportation bill will keep funding pretty much the same for the next six years... the house passed the bill that gives a 325 billion dollar
